Marie-Claire Schlameus, also known as mcchaos, is a cellist, producer, composer, and vocalist whose open and experimental approach has led to collaborations across a wide range of genres.
Her main focus is toechter, a string-based trio that builds its sound entirely from strings and voices. In her project Sometimes with Others, she develops raw, guitar-driven soundscapes together with Kristof Hahn (lap steel) and Mika Bajinski (guitar, vocals). Alongside these projects, she works as an arranger for bands, film, dance, and theatre. She was recently invited to compose music for Tatort ‘Colonius’ in the style of ‘Poor Things’ (Jerskin Fendrix) and has co-written the Short film ‘Porcelaine’ by Annika Birgel together with Sam Bower. She is currently working on a new soundtrack.
Since 2022, MC has been part of the live bands of Danish artist Agnes Obel and German rapper Casper. With Agnes Obel, she weaves live warm orchestral loops while singing simultaneously; with Casper, she merges vocals, sampled strings, and synth-like cello sounds.
Her performances have taken her across Europe, the UK, the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand.
In the studio, she has collaborated with Agnes Obel, Swans, and Ólafur Arnalds, and appeared on recordings by Tricky (including the KEXP Live Session). MC studied violoncello and chamber music at the University for Music and Theatre Leipzig.
As a composer, she is signed to Random Musick Berlin.
